Woman fined $500 over apple…

A Colorado woman was fined $500 for possessing an apple that she had been given on a Delta Airlines flight from France to the USA.

Crystal Tadlock was on her way home to Denver from Paris when she was given an apple by airplane staff as an in-flight snack. However, she decided to put it in her purse to eat later and unwittingly broke a customs rule by not declaring the fruit when she landed.

Despite the fact the fruit was wrapped in Delta Airlines packaging, Crystal revealed:

“[The customs official] had asked me if my trip to France was expensive and I said, ‘yeah.’ I didn’t really get why he was asking that question, and then he said ‘It’s about to get a lot more expensive after I charge you $500.'”

She added:

“It’s really unfortunate someone has to go through that and be treated like a criminal over a piece of fruit.”

What an idiot that customs official sounds like!

$500 for an apple that you were given moments ago on a flight? It’s as if common sense has ceased to exist…

For their part, Delta made sure to cover themselves in a statement by saying that the fruit is handed out with the ‘intention that you consume it on-board.’
