Thursday Thought – Are We Being Misled By ‘Karmic’ Quotes?

You may have noticed that there are a lot of quotes going around that say something along the lines of ‘if you have a positive mind you will succeed.’ Of course, everyone knows that a positive mental attitude can work wonders – just ask any top athlete about the importance of believing in yourself and your abilities. However, there seems to be a slight leaning towards a feeling that if you just ask for something in prayer, it will come true. But it is not just through prayer that we are promised the world, but also through showing gratitude for what we have, believing that good things are coming to us, and generally thinking positive thoughts.

These quotes and ideas may act to ease your anxiety and could help you achieve great things as a result, but we have to wonder how much of this is provable – like actual facts?

You may have heard of a film called ‘The Secret’ (or the book that followed). This spoke of what is known as the ‘Law Of Attraction,’ which says that ‘the universe’ (you can call it ‘God,’ ‘The Way,’ or ‘Tao’) will bring to you exactly what you expect it to. So, if you spend all your time thinking negative thoughts, then negativity is what you will reap, but if you think and act as if the universe is bringing you nothing but greatness, then that will be yours to have.

But does it work?

There are plenty of books out there that say it will – and does. But we’re just a little sceptical about it all – has there ever been any hard scientific study to back this up?

It would be nice to believe that being positive and just thinking ‘as if’ great things are coming would bring them to us. It is comforting, and perhaps, in some ways, a positive mindset can make a difference – such as in how others see and treat us.

Perhaps we should all try and be positive and thankful today and see if the universe acts and really does bring us more of what we want?

Let us know what you think…
