Did You Spot The Beastie Boys Reference In Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

Have you seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi yet? Don’t worry if not, as there are no spoilers here, but did you know that the movie played some subtle homage to legendary hip-hop crew, The Beastie Boys?

An alien character called ‘Slowen-Lo’ was named for the Beastie’s 1986 track ‘Slow and Low’ from their debut album, Licensed to Ill.

However, this isn’t the first time the sci-fi franchise has paid reference to the New York rap group. ‘The Force Awakens’ included an alien resistance pilot character called ‘Ello Asty’ – which was inspired by The Beastie Boys’ ‘Hello Nasty’ album title.

Star Wars director, JJ Abrams has never shied away from admitting his love for The Beastie Boys and hip-hop culture.

We wonder if there are any other hip-hop inspired names that we may have missed…
