On this day: Low End Theories, Illadelph Lives, and Nothing Is The Same…

Taking us back to 1991 and today (September 24) saw the release of A Tribe Called Quest’s second album, ‘The Low End Theory.’ The album saw three singles, ‘Check The Rhime,’ ‘Jazz (We’ve Got),’ and ‘Scenario.’ While it may have lacked the sales of other hip-hop releases, the influence of this album cannot be denied as it fused jazz with hip-hop…

In fact, it could be argued that Tribe had an influence on The Roots, who released their third album, Illadelph Halflife’ on this day in 1996. The album spawned the singles ‘Clones’ and ‘What They Do,’ whose video poked fun at hip-hop video cliches (and could still be relevant today!)…

More recently, in 2012, Wiz Khalifa released his platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated single, ‘Remember You,’ which, despite its sales, somehow never got higher than on the R&B / Hip-Hop charts…

Coming even more up-to-date, September 24, 2013, saw Drake drop his third album, ‘Nothing Was The Same.’ The Young Money album included the singles ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ and ‘Started From The Bottom.’
