Imagine how you would feel if you woke up in the morning to find a whole load of concerned messages from friends or (even worse) family, telling you to check out email or social media, only to find that your ex has leaked a stack of nude pics or a compromising video of you.
This is called ‘Revenge Porn’ and is becoming increasingly common for celebrities and everyday folk alike. In fact, you can probably think of a few instances where a celeb has had a sextape or some nude pictures leaked online.
However, revenge porn is a serious issue, which can even lead to jail time for the perpetrators. As California law states:
While not every state have laws against revenge porn, there are still steps you can take if you find that you have been a victim, or even if you know someone else who has. A campaign from the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative called ‘End Revenge Porn’ has a list of current state laws, as well as offering advice on the issue.
