What To Do If Nude Pics Or Video Is Leaked Of You Or Someone You Know

Imagine how you would feel if you woke up in the morning to find a whole load of concerned messages from friends or (even worse) family, telling you to check out email or social media, only to find that your ex has leaked a stack of nude pics or a compromising video of you.

This is called ‘Revenge Porn’ and is becoming increasingly common for celebrities and everyday folk alike. In fact, you can probably think of a few instances where a celeb has had a sextape or some nude pictures leaked online.

However, revenge porn is a serious issue, which can even lead to jail time for the perpetrators. As California law states:

“The law describes revenge porn as sharing the image of an ‘intimate body part of another identifiable person, or an image of that person engaged in sexual intercourse, sodomy, oral copulation or masturbation.”

While not every state have laws against revenge porn, there are still steps you can take if you find that you have been a victim, or even if you know someone else who has. A campaign from the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative called ‘End Revenge Porn’ has a list of current state laws, as well as offering advice on the issue.
