Madonna roasted on Twitter after making her Aretha Franklin tribute all about herself

Remember how Madonna caught heat back in 2016 for making her tribute to Prince all about herself at the Billboard Music Awards? Well, it seems she didn’t learn her lesson, as the Material Girl once again flipped a tribute to talk about herself!

This time Madonna was due to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin at the MTV Video Music Awards, but ended up just talking about herself!

Stood in front of a massive picture of the late Queen of Soul, Madonna spoke of how she was “cut and rejected” after every audition as she tried to make her career take off. She noted how industry insiders told her she was “not tall enough, not 12-octave range enough, not pretty enough and not enough enough.”

Madonna went on to say that she “had no training or dreams” but simply “went for it.”

Eventually, Madonna managed to steer her speech back around to Aretha, saying that she auditioned by singing ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ – despite being a “skinny-ass white girl” – adding that Aretha was the reason she made it in music:

“None of this would’ve happened, could’ve happened without our lady of soul. She led me to where I am today and I know she influenced so many people in this house tonight, in this room tonight, and I want to thank you Aretha for empowering all of us, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Long live the queen!”

Suffice to say, social media wasn’t kind to Madonna, who seemed to forget that she wasn’t supposed to be promoting herself!
