Kim Kardashian Responds To ‘Blackface’ Controversy

Kim Kardashian-West has come out to defend herself against accusations that she wore blackface to promote her new beauty line.

The 36-year-old found herself under fire on social media over ads for her new KKW cosmetics line with some claiming she was darkening her skin and appropriating black culture to sell her beauty products.

One social media user wrote:

“I love Kim but that’s def blackface in the form of makeup. She is nowhere near that dark.”

However, Kim explained that the shots came out so dark as a result of lighting and being “really tan.” Kim explained:

“I would obviously never want to offend anyone. I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it. Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did.”

The images have now been changed, as Kim revealed:

“We made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it.”

KKW Beauty is set to launch tomorrow exclusively on KKWBeaiuty.com with her $48 Creme Contour & Highlight Kit expected to sell all 300,000 units in less than five minutes — making Kim a tidy $14.4 million!

As for those pictures, sure, they do look a bit darker than usual – but calling them ‘blackface’ may be going a bit far…
