Johnny Depp Sends Divorce Check Straight To Amber Heard’s Charity Choices

Johnny Depp has made good on Amber Heard’s promise to have her divorce settlement paid to charity.

The Hollywood actor has paid the first installment of the $7 million settlement directly to Amber’s chosen charities the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

The payments will eventually see each charity receive $3.5 million. A rep for the Pirates of the Caribbean actor said:

“Following Amber Heard’s announcement that her divorce settlement was to be divided equally and gifted to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union, two exceptionally deserving and important charities, Johnny Depp has sent the first of multiple installments of those monies to each charity in the name of Amber Heard, which when completed will honor the full amount of Ms. Heard’s pledge. Ms Heard’s generosity in giving to these wonderful causes is deeply respected.”

Amber, who accused Johnny of domestic abuse during their 15-month marriage, chose ACLU because of their focus on stopping violence against women. She has also volunteered at the hospital for the past 10 years! Depp, meanwhile, has always denied the accusations of domestic abuse.

Announcing her decision to donate the money, Amber stated:

“As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves. As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future.”

Meanwhile, Amber, 30 and Johnny, 53, also released a joint statement, saying:

“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”

Well, we’re not so sure after having seen Amber’s secretly-recorded video of Johnny Depp at home with her but, hey, if dropping the accusations means $7 million goes to help others, should we complain?
