Hustling hard! Homeless man hands out resumes – gets hundreds of job offers

Homeless web developer, David Casarez has been sleeping on a park bench after his dreams of his own tech start-up in silicon valley went sour.

26-year-old Casarez once worked as a web developer at General Motors but decided to go for broke and start his own tech company, however he went broke for real and ended up sleeping in his 2015 Ford Transit Connect Utility van.

He explained:

“I’d been living in my car for more than a year. No one was hiring. I had an interview with Apple in January, but the job was filled interally.”

Things went from bad to worse as his van was repossessed, leaving him sleeping on a park bench. However, Casarez decided to keep going and got dressed up, On Friday, he dressed as best he could — “to be presentable to my future employers”- and stood with his cardboard sign and a stack of resumes in the hope of landing a job.

He explained:

“It was basically a make-or-break moment. I wanted to keep my head up high, keep looking forward and see what opportunity would come next. I was thinking, you know, like this was like my last stop. If this didn’t work, I’d go back home and give up on my dream.”

A couple of hours went by before a passer-by asked if she could take his picture and help by posting on social media. The passer-by, Jasmine Scofield, posted the resume alongside pictures of David, and before long he had seen over 50,000 retweets and over 70,000 likes on Twitter.

Now with over 200 job offers to consider, it seems that David’s last-ditch gamble has paid off – even if he admitted that:

“Tonight, I’ll be back on my bench in Rengstorff Park.”
