Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson has won a $20 million settlement from the network in relation to her sexual harassment suit against former boss, Roger Ailes. With other women also coming forward with their own stories of sexual misconduct at the company, the network is now desperate to clean up their damaged image.
With Ailes gone, Fox News are now expected to make an embarrassing public apology to Carlson for the culture of harassment that existed within their walls and in particular her mistreatment while an employee.
With Ailes set to pay a portion of the settlement himself, Carlson has agreed not to bring any further legal action against other executives at Fox News, or against the company itself.
Despite the embarrassment for the conservative-minded network, this all sounds like good news for Fox, who had faced the prospect of a larger investigation into a culture of sexual harassment and misconduct at Fox News.
Paying $20 million (minus whatever Ailes divvies up) to save the image of the money making Fox News sounds like a good bit of business – considering Fox News brings £1 billion in profit each year!
