It seems that there are plenty of people who would love to see Oprah run for office in 2020, but what does the current President, Donald Trump think?
While he has yet to comment on the growing calls for Oprah to run for the White House, there are some clues from past interviews Trump has given where he spoke about the possibility of Oprah Winfrey becoming the first female President of the United States…
White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters that:
“We welcome the challenge, whether it be Oprah Winfrey or anybody else.”
Adding that Donald is
“absolutely…going to run for president again.”
However, that isn’t the most surprising revelation, as it seems that Donald is an admirer of Oprah and even considered her as his vice-President!
Speaking back in 2000, Trump revealed:
“My first choice for vice president would be Oprah Winfrey. Again the political elites chortled — Oprah Winfrey! They just don’t understand how many Americans respect and admire Oprah for her intelligence and caring. She has provided inspiration for millions of women to improve their lives, go back to school, learn to read, and take responsibility for themselves. If I can’t get Oprah, I’d like someone like her.”
When questioned further, Trump stated he would plump for:
“Oprah Winfrey, who’s really great, and I think we would be a very formidable team.”
He even told CNN’s Larry King:
“Oprah would always be my first choice.
Of course, back then Trump may not have been serious about running for President, but in 2015, he again stated:
“I’d love to have Oprah [as a VP and] I think we’d win easily, actually.”
Of course, we doubt Oprah would be willing to stand alongside Donald Trump – so we wonder how he will react should she decide to stand against him in 2020… We doubt he will be so full of praise!
