Side by Side: Demetrius Shipp Jr. | Tupac Shakur
It has been said that late iconic rapper, Tupac Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur had her hands heavily in the production of her son’s film, ‘All Eyes On Me’ before she died on May 2nd. She also made sure that Shakur’s business affairs were always in order. After going through several directors, music video director, Benny Boom was the chosen one to bring the biopic to life starring newcomer, Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac.
Fast forwarding to July 16, 2016, the movie which was slated to be released in September (And has subsequently been delayed several times prior), will now potentially have a release date of November 11th, because of licensing issues. These issues are between former Death Row Records artist and producer, Daz Dillinger and BMG (As both parties are laying claim to the hit Tupac song ‘Ambitionz Az a Ridah’) which is prominent throughout the movie, including the intro.
Tupac’s biopic is in mortal danger … because of a feud between a rapper and a publishing giant.
Rapper Daz Dillinger claims he holds the rights to the track “Ambitionz Az a Ridah” … prominently featured in the “All Eyez on Me” movie. But Daz claims BMG publishing house begs to differ, insisting only it can green light the song for the flick. Thus, there’s now a standoff.
The movie release has been pushed from September to November … we’re told so Daz and BMG can resolve the conflict.
This is the latest in a series of nasty legal battles between Daz and BMG. The rapper sued BMG back in April, claiming the company owes him more than $75k in royalties.
We’ve reached out to BMG, so far no word back.
Meanwhile, I guess we will have to keep looking at the promo video. SMH! Release the film already and stop making faithful Shakur fans wait any longer.
