Beyonce gets candid over baby weight and more in new Vogue cover story

Beyonce is on the cover of September’s Vogue Magazine and the superstar singer was open about a number of issues in her accompanying interview – chatting about things like body acceptance, helping younger artists get on, her infamous Coachella performance, her legacy, and more…

Opening up about gaining baby weight, Bey revealed how she put pressure on herself to get back in shape after giving birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy.

Beyonce revealed:

“I put pressure on myself to lose all the baby weight in three months, and scheduled a small tour to assure I would do it. Looking back, that was crazy.”

She was also candid about hitting 218 pounds with her twins Sir and Rumi, and how she was swollen with toxemia which forced her to take over a month of bed rest and, with her health and that of the twins in danger, how she had an emergency C-Section. In the wake of all this, Beyonce managed to find acceptance of her post-baby figure, explaining:

“I think it’s important for women and men to see and appreciate the beauty in their natural bodies. That’s why I stripped away the wigs and hair extensions and used little makeup for this shoot.”

She went on:

“To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller. I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real. Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my ass off until I have it. But right now, my little FUPA and I feel like we are meant to be.”

Beyonce also spoke out about how she feels it is important to support younger artists, saying:

“It’s important to me that I help open doors for younger artists. There are so many cultural and societal barriers to entry that I like to do what I can to level the playing field, to present a different point of view for people who may feel like their voices don’t matter.”

With some great photography from Tyler Mitchell – the first African American to shoot a Vogue cover – Beyonce’s interview is a must-read for fans – and you can see the whole thing at Vogue.Com.
