A marketing firm contracted by the Republican National Committee have accidentally leaked the personal details of nearly 200 million U.S. citizens.
The leaked details include birth dates, addresses, telephone numbers and political views and, with 62% of the population affected, there is a good chance your details are out there too (if you’re American, of course!).
The data also included suspected religious affiliations, ethnicities and political biases, such as where people stood on controversial topics like gun control, the right to abortion and stem cell research.
The info was leaked to a publicly accessible Amazon cloud server which could be accessed by anyone with just a link.
The data seems to have been collated form a variety of sources, including banned threads on Reddit to official committees who raised fund for the Republicans.
Deep Root Analytics compiled the info onto spreadsheets and was updated in January when Donald Trump took office. It is not known how long the information has been online for.
Speaking on the leak, Deep Root Analytics founder Alex Lundry said:
Of course, the leak opens up all sorts of concerns about privacy and data, with fears that this type of information can be used for anything from identity fraud to harassment and intimidating those with different political, ideological, or religious views.
