Hairstylists To Help The Fight Against Domestic Abuse

A new law for hairstylists in Illinois is hoping to help the fight against domestic abuse. The law, which will come into effect on January 1, 2017, will see hairstylists receive training in how to recognize the signs of domestic abuse.

Staff will get 1 hour of training every two years when they renew their licenses. While they won’t be required to report incidents of abuse, the hairstylists will be able to offer protection from lawsuits should they decide to go to the authorities.

What do you think of this first-of-its-kind law?

With hairstylists acting like confidantes to many people it seems like a good move to use their unique position in society to help lessen a problem that affects around 1 in 5 women in the U.S.
