President-elect, Donald Trump has declared that “nobody really knows” if climate change is real. His comments come as he reveals he is “studying” whether the United States should withdraw from the Paris agreement on global warming.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Trump said he is “very open-minded” about climate change, but seemed more concerned about business than the environment, as he stated:
Despite his assertion that “nobody knows,” the evidence is pretty strong, with an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluding that it is “extremely likely” that, since the 1950s, humans and their greenhouse gas emissions have been the “dominant cause” of the planet becoming warmer. The figures back this up with all of the 10 hottest years on record having happened since 1998, with 2016 set to be announced as the hottest year since records began in 1880.
This is not the first time Trump has disregarded science as he once called climate change a “hoax” put forward by China (although he later said this was a “joke”). However, he also mocked Meghan Antrade of the League of Conservation Voters at an event in New Hampshire, saying that nobody aside from her believed climate change was real.
So, what is behind Trump’s refusal to accept the facts? Money, it seems, as he went on:
The fact that Trump has also nominated climate change skeptic General Scott to head the Environmental Protection Agency also tells its own story.
Sounds to us that Trump is just another in a long line of old men who are happy to ignore the real global problems of climate change in favor of making a few extra dollars – after all they may well all be dead before it really kicks in!
